No FIR yet in land dispute between rival Talpur family members
HYDERABAD: Latifabad’s B-Section police appeared to be in a fix over registration of an FIR into a couple of violent incidents over a land dispute between two groups belonging to the Talpur family.
An FIR of the alleged firing on May 9 could not be registered so far as the police were examining the rival sides’ claims.
The Talpur family lives in Latifabad Unit No. 4 while the 112-acre land in question is situated in Latifabad Unit No. 10.
Some members of Balochistan’s Rind tribesmen are also involved in the dispute who are supporting one side, led by Mir Murad Talpur, the paternal nephew of the other side, led by Mir Ehsan Talpur.
In the May 9 incident, Mehboob Rind and Dilawar Rind, had received pallet injuries and the former is still under treatment at a hospital.
Mir Murad is said to have sought support of an influential figure, Yar Mohammad Rind, and that’s why Dilawar Rind, Mehboob Rind and some of their associates were present on the land.
After the incident, Mir Murad had staged a protest demonstration outside the B-Section police station for the registration of his FIR.
“I am now told by Hyderabad SSP Shahzeb Chachar that my case will be registered. I spoke to him after feeling that the SHO of the B-Section police station is not looking into the matter on merit,” Mir Murad told Dawn on Tuesday over phone.
Mir Ehsan Talpur claims ownership of the land which, according to him, he had sold to a builder firm and intended to hand over the physical possession to the company. The firm is developing its own housing scheme within the proximity of the disputed land.
Mir Ehsan claims that his nephew (Mir Murad) owned only 1-37 acres of the land while the rest of the land belongs to other Talpur family members. However, Mir Murad claims that a fake power of attorney was prepared to partition the land. “This forgery prompted me to move a civil court and to question the document. I have prayed the court for a forensic test of my signature to ascertain whether the signature on the power of attorney is mine or otherwise,” said Mir Murad.
In a related incident Mir Murad’s tenant, Jibran Lodhi, who runs a cattle pen on the land, was allegedly abducted by Mir Ehsan’s men. The police later got him freed and brought him to the B-Section police station in custody.
According to Mir Murad, Jibran Lodhi is his long time tenant, and not an encroacher. He claims that Mr Lodhi was roughed up by the abductors.
Mir Ehsan told Dawn that the SSP heard him as well and was conducting inquiries into the matter. He said that he apprised the police of his claim.
