President’s Trophy Grade-II to feature Gold, Silver tiers

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has, for the first time, divided the President’s Trophy Gra­de-II into Gold and Silver categories, with the former set to begin on Tuesday acr­oss Abbottabad, Hari­pur, Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The competition serves as a pathway to the President’s Trophy Grade-I first-class tournament and the List-A President’s Cup.

The Gold category comprises 14 teams divided into two pools of seven each, while the Silver category features 10 teams. Matches in the Silver category will commence from May 18.

The winners and runners-up of the Silver category will earn promotion to the Gold tier, while the top two teams in the Gold competition will qualify for the Grade-I first-class and List-A tournaments.

Pool ‘A’ of the Gold category consists of Eshaal Associates, JDW Sugar Mills, MIT Solutions, PHA Rawalpindi, Railways, Ahmed Glass and Kingsmen Academy.

Pool ‘B’ comprises Higher Education Commi­ssion, Kingsmen, Wing 999 Sports, Ghani Insti­tute, Sardar Group, Port Qasim and Vital Tea.

Pool ‘A’ matches will be played at the Railway Cri­cket Stadium in Hari­pur, Abbottabad Cricket Stad­ium and the National Cri­cket Ground in Islamabad.

Pool ‘B’ fixtures are scheduled for the Diamond Cricket Ground and Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad, as well as the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Each team will play six non-first-class three-day matches within its pool from May 12 to June 11, after which the top two teams from each pool will advance to the semis, sche­duled from June 14 to 16.

The final will be played from June 18 to 21, with the venues for the semis and final to be announced later. A total of seven rou­nds will be held during the single-league stage, with six matches scheduled in each round.
