Pakistan squad named for CASA 7s Rugby
LAHORE: The Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) on Monday announced a 10-member team for the inaugural edition of the Central South Asian 7s Rugby Championship being held in Tashkent on May 16-17.
The squad includes Aamir Shahzad, Anjum Sajjad, Mohsin Raza, Mohammad Aqib Siddiqui, Abbas Bangash, Mohammad Haroon, Faiq Shahzad, Mohammad Afzal, Touqeer Ali and Mohammad Irfan. Mohammad Mudassir has been named captain for the event while Umair Khan will serve as vice-captain. Kashif Khawaja is the head coach.
Besides Pakistan, the other countries featuring in the event include Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, India and Uzbekistan.
PRU secretary Salman Muzaffar Shaikh said CASA Rugby Alliance was jointly established by the rugby unions of Pakistan and India to promote the sport across the region.
“The alliance currently consists of 11 member nations, including the participating countries alongside Bangladesh, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and Iran,” Salman said.
“This event marks the first-ever Rugby Sevens event under the CASA Rugby Alliance,” he said.
