Teenage boy shot dead over ‘honour’

KARACHI: A teenage boy was shot dead in the name of so-called honour in Korangi on Sunday evening, police said.

Korangi Industrial Area SHO Nasir Mehmood said that Majid Ali, 18, was shot and killed near Tapal Factory. He added that the victim and his friend, Mohammad Salih, were running a canteen and also lived there.

According to the initial probe, the deceased had a friendship with a girl, who had invited him for a meeting on Sunday. When he reached the spot, the girl’s brother, identified as Mazhar Ali Leghari and another suspect, Gul Mohammed, residents of Naushahro Feroze district, allegedly shot him dead and fled on a motorbike.

The officer said the victim also belonged to the same tribe and was a resident of Moro City. Investigators collected three spent bullet casings fired from a 9mm pistol, he added.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

‘Drug dealer’ gunned down in ‘encounter

An alleged narcotics dealer was gunned down in an alleged encounter in Gadap on Sunday, officials said.

Gadap City SHO Mohammed Ali Shah said that, acting on a tip-off, the police conducted an operation in Karim Town where an exchange of fire took place, resulting in bullet injuries to a suspect, identified as Asif, while his associate managed to escape.

The wounded suspect was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where he succumbed to his injuries.

The killed suspect was included in a list of the most wanted drug peddlers. He had allegedly been involved in the narcotics trade for a considerable period.

Police kill robber

Meanwhile, a suspected street criminal was gunned down while another was critically injured in an alleged encounter in New Karachi Industrial Area on Sunday.

Area police SHO Zahid Lodhi said that a patrolling police party signalled four suspects riding two motorbikes to stop near the Siddiqabad graveyard. Instead, the suspects allegedly opened fire. In the ensuing exchange of fire, one suspect, namely Muzaffar alias Zafaru, was gunned down while his accomplice, Haseeb, was arrested after sustaining a bullet wound on his neck.

The body and the injured were shifted to the ASH for medico-legal formalities and treatment.

The officer said the deceased suspect had a past criminal record, as there were four cases against him.

Woman ‘killed by brother’

A woman was killed allegedly by her brother inside their home in Qasba Colony on Sunday morning, according to police.

Pirabad SHO Sirajuddin Khattak said that Havia Bakht Zamin, 35, was asleep when her brother, Bezwar, electrocuted her to death and and fled.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The SHO said the deceased woman had ‘separated’ from her husband, who was also not allowing her to meet her two children.

He said an initial probe revealed that the alleged killer was also addicted to heroin.

Body found

The body of a minor boy was found near Northern Bypass within the remit of the Mochko police station on Sunday.

The body of the 12-year-old boy was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that there were “multiple injuries all over the body”.

She said: “On the basis of physical findings, we have strong suspicion that the boy was criminally assaulted.”
