Wanted suspect killed in ‘accomplices’ firing
BAHAWALPUR: Bahawalpur Crime Control Department (CCD) claimed to have killedan alleged dacoit, wanted in 22 cases, in an “encounter” at Mauza Musa Khokhar in the limits of Uch Sharif police station.
According to the CCD officials, a patrol team deployed at a picket near Musa Khokhar, signaled three suspects riding a motorcycle. The suspects, instead, allegedly opened fire on the CCD team members, who retaliated.
During an exchange of fire, two suspects fled away on the motorcycle, while the third one was found lying seriously injured, allegedly in his fleeing accomplices’ firing.
The police arrested the injured suspect and called Rescue 1122 team on the spot which declared him dead after a medical examination. He was identified as Irfan, a resident of Mauza Dahran in Ahmedpur East tehsil.
The police say that after scrutiny of record, it transpired that Irfan was involved in as many as 22 criminal cases, and had been declared a proclaimed offender in three of them. His body was shifted to Ahmedpur East THQ Hospital for the postmortem examination.
A pistol was recovered from the deceased’s possession, the police said.
A case against the two fleeing suspects was registered by the CCD, which claimed they had also been tracked and would be arrested soon.
DRIVER DIES: A driver died after a tractor-trolley overturned at Basti Lailpur near Kahrorepucca in Lodhran district. The Rescue 1122 officials say the body of the deceased, Hashim (50), was shifted to Kahrorepucca THQ Hospital.
SALES POINTS: The Bahawalpur administration has notified six sales points, in addition to the already functioning mandis (markets), for the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals across the district.
According to an announcement by the deputy commissioner’s office, in Bahawalpur tehsil the sales points will be set up at Judgewali Pulli on Jhangiwali Road and Shashmahi Canal on Yazman Road.
In Ahmedpur East tehsil, the sales point will be established on KLP Road near Rehbar petrol pump; in Yazman tehsil at Chak No 102/ DB, Qainchi More; in Hasilpur tehsil at the new bus stand behind Rescue 1122 station and in Khairpur Tamewali tehsil, a sales point will be set up on the Bahawalpur Road.
According to the announcement, the DC warned those selling animals at other places in the district of strict legal strict.
