Election process for Wapda CBA begins

LARKANA: Internal elections for the All Pakistan Wapda Hydroelectric Workers Union (CBA) within the Sepco power utility have officially commenced in Larkana.

Candidates for various administrative levels — including sub-division, revenue, division and circle offices — submitted their nomination papers to the Election Commission at the Abdul Latif Nizamani Labour Hall on Friday. Polling is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

The electoral process spans the Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts, overseen by Provincial General Secretary Iqbal Ahmed Khan and Sepco Regional Chairman Nisar Shaikh. Union spokesman Mehmood Pathan noted that while a majority of candidates in several areas have been returned unopposed, democratic polling will proceed for the remaining contested seats.

Early results indicate uncontested victories for several teams: Khurram Memon emerged victorious in the Jinnah Bagh Sub-Division, while Waseem Jatoi, Hadi Bakhsh Jatoi and Naheed Jatoi secured wins in the Shaikh Zayed, Chandka and Empire Sub-Divisions respectively. Sarfaraz Abro’s team also triumphed at the Circle Training Centre. However, a contest remains underway for the positions of vice-chairman and joint secretary in the Shaikh Zayed Sub-Division.

Speaking at the hall, Iqbal Khan and Nisar Shaikh emphasised that the elections are being conducted transparently and in accordance with democratic traditions, stating that the “confidence of the workers remains the true strength of the union”.
