THERE is little doubt that Pakistan Post, once considered a reliable and essential public utility service, now faces serious challenges that have undermined its effi-ciency and public trust. Its decline began with the domination by digital communi-cation and private courier companies, making it struggle to remain relevant and effective. The postal authorities, in order to shore up revenue, decided to convert the historic British-built post office on the Mall Road in Murree into a cafe.

Outdated infrastructure together with lack of due modern technology has led to inordinate delays in mail distribution, forcing people to use private courier services. The government failure to invest in modernisation and service quality has further compounded the issues.

Despite these challenges, Pakistan Post still holds great potential due to its extensive network across the country, especially in remote areas where private services rarely operate.

If the government gets serious about introducing reforms, invests in technology, and improves management practices, the postal system can regain public confidence and play a meaningful role in Pakistan.
