KARACHI: According to information received in Karachi from Quetta Pakistani levymen foiled attempts of an Afghan lashkar, composed of Afghan tribesmen and soldiers, to capture the Pakistani [village] of Killi Walijan, one mile west of Chaman, between May 1 and May 3. Two persons … were killed while tribesman received injuries on the Pakistan side. [Casualties] on the Afghan side were believed to be heavy. … The Afghan Lashkar, which crossed the Pakistan border twice, wanted to surround and capture the village … and cut the telegraph and telephone communications. A portion of the Lashkar which later on swelled into 1,000-strong, attacked two other Pakistani levy posts and fired from automatic weapons, indicating the participation of members of the Regular Afghan Army. Pakistani lorries plying from Chaman to Kandhar were detained by the Afghan authorities in their territory.
