First child open-heart surgery at IUH
KARACHI: The Indus University Hospital (IUH) saw its first paediatric open-heart surgery on Wednesday.
The surgery was performed under IUH’s congenital heart services, ushering in a new era of advanced, free-of-cost cardiac care for children at the hospital.
The complex procedure was led by Dr Zubair Barohi and Dr Arjumand Shauq, supported by a highly specialised and coordinated multidisciplinary team.
“This milestone is not just about one successful surgery — it is about building a system that can consistently deliver complex, life-saving care at scale. By investing in infrastructure, technology, and people, we are laying the foundation for a sustainable cardiac programme that will significantly improve access and outcomes for children across Pakistan,” said Prof Syed Zafar Zaidi, chief executive officer, Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN).
