Doctors warn against ‘backroom cabinet plan’

QUETTA: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Balochistan has expressed concern over what it described as renewed efforts by certain elements to form the provincial cabinet through closed-door consultations rather than a democratic electoral process.

A spokesman for YDA Balochistan said in a statement that such actions could create divisions within the medical community and weaken the organisation. He emphasised that the only legitimate way to form a provincial cabinet is through fair and transparent elections.

He alleged that a self-styled consultative council and certain individuals were attempting to establish the cabinet based on personal preferences and monopoly, rather than through democratic procedures.

YDA Balochistan further stated that any provincial cabinet announced without elections would not be accepted and would lack legitimacy.

The association said that only a cabinet elected through a transparent voting process would truly represent the doctors’ community.

The statement also warned that non-democratic practices could harm both doctors and patients, adding that responsibility for any damage to the organisation would rest with those involved in such actions.

The association appealed to the medical community to remain united, oppose non-democratic measures, and demand transparent elections in which all members are given equal opportunity to participate.
