Federal govt ignoring Balochistan’s issues: NP

GWADAR: National Party President Dr Abdul Malik Baloch said on Sunday that the federal government, as well as the country’s “powerful institutions”, were ignoring Balochistan and not taking proper measures to resolve the province’s grave issues, which were worsening with the passage of time.

Speaking at the council session of National Party Tehsil Dasht in Turbat, along with Senator Mir Jan Muhammad Buledi, he maintained that the federal government was unfortunately more interested in Balochistan’s resources than in the province’s problems and its people.

“Islamabad is not even prepared to grant the people of Balochistan their right to vote, and the situation cannot improve unless the political status of the province’s democratic and nationalist political parties is acknowledged,” Dr Malik said.

The National Party leaders emphasised that the issues faced by Balochistan were political and national matters and could only be resolved through dialogue.

However, they said that the rulers had failed to understand this and were instead trying to resolve them by using force.

‘Flawed policies’

They further stated that a wrong mindset and flawed policies had pushed Balochistan to its current situation, adding that the fire ignited in the province during General Musharraf’s era continued to burn the Baloch people.

The leaders stressed that the present circumstances demand the adoption of a national reconciliation policy in Balochistan and the initiation of a process to pave the way for political negotiations. They also called for steps to restore public trust.

The National Party leaders demanded an end to corruption in ongoing development projects, special attention to education, and merit-based recruitment of Baloch youth in government jobs.

They also called for the release of political prisoners or their presentation before the courts and urged the authorities to avoid “unconstitutional and illegal” actions.

The meeting was addressed by Haji Fida Hussain Dashti, Younis Javed, Dr Sajjad Dashti, Azizullah Dashti, Waseem Baloch, Iqbal Anwar Dashti, Hammal Dashti, Nisar Ahmed, Ishaq Baloch, Fazal Baloch, and Advocate Shabbir.
