Heavy rain, hailstorm batter Shangla, Kohat districts
SHANGLA/KOHAT: Heavy rainfall, coupled with hailstorms, battered several parts of Shangla and Kohat districts, damaging standing crops and fruit orchards on Sunday
In Shangla, the hailstorm and rain continued for the second consecutive day on Sunday, triggering flash floods in streams and rivers and inundating markets in several bazaars.
The hailstorm caused extensive damage to standing crops and fruit orchards, particularly in Puran and Alpuri tehsils.
Local farmers reported significant losses of seasonal fruits and vegetables, describing the storm’s intensity as a major blow to the agricultural sector.
In Alpuri and the surrounding areas, residents faced severe hardships as heavy downpour triggered landslides that blocked link roads and disrupted traffic.
Rainwater reportedly entered shops and houses in low-lying areas, causing financial losses to traders.
The district administration and rescue teams have been alerted to clear the debris and monitor the rising water levels in seasonal nullahs, while authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the ongoing rain spell.
In the Kohat district, a hailstorm extensively damaged wheat crop, which was ready for harvesting, besides guava orchards and vegetable farms. The storm also turned the weather pleasant, Rescue 1122 officials said.
