Five injured in gas pipeline fire

BAHAWALPUR: Five people sustained serious burn injuries in a Sui gas pipeline fire at a house in P Block of Burewala Housing Society, Vehari district, on Wednesday night.

According to police spokesman, the incident occurred after residents noticed a strong smell of gas in the house. The owner called Sui gas technicians to identify the cause.

After repairing the leakage, the technicians reportedly lit a matchstick to check whether the leak had been sealed. As the flame ignited, accumulated gas caught fire that engulfed five people present at the scene.

The injured were identified as Amin (25), Ali Raza (25), Naila (30), Hammad (15), and Zehra (2).

Upon receiving information, DPO Tasawar Iqbal, along with a heavy police contingent, reached the site and supervised rescue and relief operations. Police cordoned off the area to prevent further danger and ensure the safety of nearby residents.

The fire was brought under control shortly afterwards. The injured were shifted to a local hospital, where they received first aid and emergency treatment, and were later transferred under police supervision to the burn unit of Sahiwal for specialised care.
