Two cops held for ‘harassing’ family
OKARA: Two police constables were booked and arrested for allegedly harassing and snatching cash from a family.
According to the first information report (FIR), Zainul Abidin, an employee of Renala THQ Hospital and a resident of Chak 21/2-L, was on his way to pick up his family after a marriage function when his car ran out of fuel. As the family waited by the roadside arranging petrol, two constables identified as Ali Sukhera and Imtiaz arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly began harassing them.
The FIR states that the suspects, under threat, snatched Rs22,000 from the family, recorded a video of them, and demanded an additional Rs20,000 for its deletion before fleeing the scene.
Zainul Abidin later approached District Police Officer Dr Asad Ejaz Malhi.
As the accused constables had been identified and were posted at City Renala Police Station, a case under Section 392 of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered against them. Both suspects were subsequently arrested and placed in police lock-up.
