HYDERABAD: A police party was attacked and forced to retreat after they conducted a raid for the arrest of suspected liquor dealers in Adal Noonari village, Husri, on Monday evening.

Women police personnel accompanied the strong police contingent as they also intended to carry out a house-to-house search for the suspects.

As soon as the police party arrived in the village and rounded up some suspects, a crowd of men and women put up stiff resistance and pelted them with stones.

The police had to fire shots into the air to scare away the unruly mob but had to retreat due to the strong resistance.

The area remained disturbed for quite some time. DSPs Imdad Qureshi and Iftikhar Buriro were leading the police party, according to a police spokesman.

He said that the police picked up five suspects but came under attack and withdrew from the area without accomplishing the task.
