Child drowns, motorcyclist killed in Attock
TAXILA: At least two people, including a four-year-old child, lost their lives in two separate accidents in Attock district, rescue and police officials said on Monday.
In the first incident, a tragic drowning occurred in Kisran village of Pindigheb tehsil, where a four-year-old boy, identified as Urtaza Haider, fell into a village pond and drowned.
Upon receiving the information, Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene and launched a search operation. After nearly 20 minutes of efforts, rescuers retrieved the child from the pond and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was later handed over to the family after the necessary formalities.
In a separate incident within the limits of Hazro Police Station, one person was killed in a head-on collision between two motorcycles near Mian Khadi Baba’s shrine. Police said the accident occurred due to a collision between the bikes, resulting in the death of one rider on the spot.
Authorities have initiated further investigations into both incidents.
Meanwhile, the Crime Control Department (CCD) Attock has busted a seven-member inter-district motorcycle lifter and drug trafficking gang, recovering 38 stolen motorcycles along with weapons and tampering equipment.
According to officials, the breakthrough came after an encounter on April 20 near Shakardara Mor and Baryar Mor, where suspects opened indiscriminate fire on a police team during checking. In the ensuing exchange, three suspects were arrested in an injured condition, while four accomplices were later apprehended in follow-up raids.
Police said two 30-bore pistols and tools used for tampering with motorcycles were also recovered from the accused. The suspects are reportedly involved in multiple cases of robbery, motorcycle theft, and drug peddling, and have prior criminal records.
