Abubakar stages comeback to beat Mikaeel in semi-final

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Abubakar Talha defeated compatriot Mikaeel Ali Baig in the boys singles semi-final of the ITF Pakistan Syed Dilawar Abbas Memorial Junior Tennis Championship (J-60, Leg-3) here at the PTF Complex on Thursday.

After losing the opening set, Abubakar staged a strong comeback against Mikaeel winning the next two sets to clinch the match 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Abubakar in the final faces Singapore’s Luke Jie Xi Ho who defeated Ganuka Fernando of Sri Lanka 6-1, 7-5 in the other last-four clash.

Boys singles: Luke Jie Xi Ho (Singapore) bt Ganuka Fernando (Sri Lanka) 6-1, 7-5; Abubakar Talha (Pakistan) bt Mikaeel Ali Baig (Pakistan) 4-6, 6-0, 6-3

Girls singles: Zhiyu Zhou (China) bt Yitong Lu (China) 6-0, 6-1; Yerin Lim (Korea) bt Srimuk Phitchayaphak (Thailand) 7-5, 6-1

Boys doubles: Mikaeel Ali Baig (Pakistan)/Luke Jie Xi Ho (Singapore) bt Jinxuan (China)/Amir Mazari (Pakistan) 6-0, 6-4; Abubakar Talha/Hamza Roman (Pakistan) bt Artem Bukin (Russia)/Fedor Dorokhov (Russia) 6-1, 6-2

Girls doubles: Yerin Lim (Korea)/Zhiyu Zhou (China) bt Srimuk Phitchayaphak (Thailand)/Yijia Wang (China) – walkover; Zihan Feng (China)/Kiko Okuyama (Japan) bt Yitong Lu (China)/Ai Teng (China) 6-4, 2-6(11-9).
