Traffic officials recover kidnapped minor girls

TOBA TEK SINGH: Two minor girls, who were kidnapped from Lahore, were recovered during a routine check by a traffic warden in Sheikhupura on Thursday.

Police claimed that warden Saqib and constable Naeem, deputed at the Bhatti Chowk in Sheikhupura, signalled a motorcyclist without a helmet, with two pillion girls, to stop. However, on seeing the traffic officers, he dropped off both girls and sped away.

It was later revealed that an FIR was registered by the Lahore Hadiyara police regarding the disappearance of the two girls. In the FIR, complainant Muhammad Sarwar stated that his daughter Hifza (10) had gone out along with her friend Minahil (13), but both disappeared.

Both girls had been handed over to the Hadiyara police and search was underway to arrest their abductor.

CONVICTED: Gojra Additional District and Sessions Judge Sadaqat Ali awarded on Thursday life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs1 million to murder case accused Abdul Rashid.

The Gojra Saddar police had arrested convict Rashid of Chak 91 JB in 2008 for shooting and killing Muhammad Bashir due to a grudge.

Meanwhile, Sheikhupura Additional District and Sessions Judge Mahmood Hayat awarded a 25-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs800,000 each to two narcotic cases accused.

Both convicts Wasim Khan and Adnan Essa of Peshawar were arrested from Jandiala Sher Khan and police had recovered a huge quantity of hashish from them.

ROAD SCHEMES: Work is underway on 243 schemes under the Highways department in Faisalabad division, a meeting was informed with Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen in the chair.

The meeting was told that 28 schemes had been completed on the Highways Circle One and 25 schemes on Circle Two, while more than 80 percent of the ongoing schemes had been completed.

The meeting was also briefed on the development projects proposed in the division for the new financial year.

Similarly, schemes under public-private partnership were also being sent to the provincial government for approval. The commissioner indicated that steps would be taken to establish public toilets at 15 places in the city. She said that five plazas would also be constructed around the eight bazaars encircling the Ghanta Ghar to provide parking facilities to the citizens.

MURDER SUSPECT HELD: A proclaimed offender of Khanewal who had been absconding after a murder 16 years ago was arrested from Jhelum on Thursday.

Police claimed that the Khanewal Saddar police succeeded to trace the whereabouts of the accused through modern technology. He had disappeared after killing a man over an old enmity in 2010.
