Court revokes stay against underground parking projects

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has revoked its stay order against multiple development projects in the provincial metropolis including construction of underground parking projects at Taxali and Sheranwala gates.

Justice Shahid Karim withdrew the injunctive order in view of a report submitted by a court-formed judicial commission.

The report said the suggestions of WWF and various members of civil society were taken into consideration and the regulations related to protection of public parks and green belts have been approved.

Expressing satisfaction over the steps taken by the government, the judge observed that there is no impediment in the way of Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) in enacting its fresh regulations.

“Consequently, the restraining order passed on Jan 30, 2026 in respect of projects initiated by C&W Department is hereby recalled,” the judge said in his order.

The judge made it clear that the department concerned shall deal with the standing trees strictly in accordance with regulations in respect of their re-plantation.

The judge directed the PHA to ensure the compliance of the formalities mentioned in the regulations prior to commencement of the projects.

Justice Karim also instructed the members of the judicial commission to supervise each step of the permissions granted by the PHA.

The judge had stayed the development projects on complaints of felling trees by the authorities.
