Reversal of fixed charges in gas bills sought

QUETTA: The Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) has expressed serious concern over the heavy fixed charges being imposed by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on domestic and industrial consumers, demanding that these charges be reduced to a minimum or withdrawn entirely.

According to the chamber, the SSGC is charging fixed and additional fees in gas bills, with fixed charges reaching up to Rs8,000 and additional charges of up to Rs90 per million British thermal unit for domestic and commercial consumers.

The chamber has sent a letter to the petroleum ministry and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) chairman, stating that a large number of industrial and domestic consumers have approached the QCCI to raise objections to the inclusion of extremely high fixed and additional charges in their gas bills.

The chamber termed these charges excessive and unreasonable, stating that they are beyond the affordability of ordinary citizens, especially low-income families.
