QUETTA: Pakistan Railways on Thursday announced the suspension of the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express service in Balochistan for March 27.

“There will be no trains available for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday,” railway officials said, adding that the Jaffar Express had been suspended due to technical reasons and ongoing track maintenance.

The Jaffar Express from Quetta to Peshawar will not depart on Friday, while the train arriving from Peshawar will be halted at Jacobabad railway station.

Passengers who purchased tickets for travel on Friday will be refunded.

The officials said that the Karachi-bound Bolan Mail and the Quetta-Chaman Passenger train had already been suspended for a long time.

The Bolan Mail was halted due to a lack of passengers, while the Quetta-Chaman train has not been operating for unspecified reasons, which railway authorities did not disclose.

However, sources said the Jaffar Express was suspended for March 27 due to security reasons.

Passengers and the general public continue to face serious difficulties, as train services from Quetta to other provinces and within Balochistan have frequently been suspended over a prolonged period.
