Pera team attacked by land grabbers; five held
SAHIWAL: A Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) team was attacked by land grabbers while attempting to vacate a three-kanal and nine-marla piece of agricultural land at Village 112/9-L on Tuesday.
Reports said on the orders of the district collector, the team led by Pera official Zeeshan arrived at Abadi Khan, Budh Dhako, Village 112/9-L, accompanied by a revenue officer and personnel from the DC office. The team presented the official order to vacate the agriculture land, but instead of complying, the land grabbers launched a physical and violent assault. Eyewitnesses said the verbal and physical assault continued for 30 minutes until more cops arrived at the village.
The land grabbers had lost all appeals with DC Samiuallah. Police identified the attackers as Muhammad Zakir, Jaji Muhammad, Muhammad Sharif, woman Anjum Naheed, Khalid Javed, Hasan, Khuda Yar Nawaz who along with eight unidentified individuals targeted sergeant Habib and Zeeshan. Their uniforms were torn during the scuffle, and the official vehicle was damaged with bamboo sticks and stone pelting. The Pera force immediately alerted authorities and called the police emergency helpline (15). A contingent from Dera Rahim Police rushed to the scene and arrested five individuals, while the rest managed to escape. Later, a criminal case was registered against 15 persons under sections 186, 506, 353, 427, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of SI Zeeshan. The arrested suspects were locked up at the police station.
TORTURED: Ghala Mandi Police arrested four individuals allegedly involved in the brutal torture of a labourer, a video of which had been circulating on local social media platforms for the last two days.
The incident took place at village 87/9-L, Tehsil Sahiwal.
According to reports, District Police Officer (DPO) Usman Tipu took notice after the video surfaced, showing eight men mercilessly beating a man with sticks and bamboo rods. Acting on the DPO’s instructions, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rai Irfan Dera Rahim Police raided an outhouse and arrested prime suspect Asher Shahzad along with three accomplices. Later, police registered a case against seven accused under sections 292, 342, 147, and 149 of PPC on the complaint of ASI Rai Irfan.
Raids are continuing to arrest the remaining suspects.
BAIL PLEA REJECTED: A regional anti-terrorism court special judge rejected bail application of two brothers allegedly involved in torturing a Lesco team and a Rangers personnel who moved to remove a default electricity meter from their outhouse located in Basirpur vicinity at Okara on Feb 19, 2026.
Report said both brothers along with 13 accomplices insulted Lesco team and Rangers personnel, damaged official vehicles and used foul language against armed forces. Later, Basirpur Police booked 15 suspects under sections 124, 186, 351, 427, 148, 149, 506 of PPC and 7-ATA-1996 and arrested brothers Kashif Ali and Muzamil Mohar. CCD: An injured outlaw was arrested by the Crime Control Department (CCD) while two of his accomplices managed to escape during an encounter on GT Road on Tuesday night.
Reports said CCD Inspector Asif received a call that three outlaws were looting citizens by setting up a picket on the old GT Road. Police rushed to the scene, where the suspects opened fire upon seeing them. A crossfire lasting about 15 minutes ensued, after which police found an injured dacoit, later identified as Arshad Baloch. A 30-bore pistol was recovered from him, while his two accomplices fled under cover of darkness.
The CCD registered a case under PPC’s sections 324, 186, 353, 34, and 13A(2) of the Arms Ordinance on the complaint of Inspector Asif Nawaz.
In another incident, Sahiwal City Police arrested two injured dacoits following an encounter near LBDC Canal, Jhal Road, on Tuesday night. The suspects were identified as Kashif Manzoor and Hamza Joiya, while their third accomplice escaped.
Police recovered Rs23,400 in cash, a pistol, and a stolen motorcycle from the scene. A case was registered under PPC’s sections 353, 324, 186, and 34 on the complaint of Station House Officer Nasir Ali.
