Four ‘killers’ of cop killed in ‘encounter’
GUJRAT: At least four suspects wanted in the killing of a cop and injuring another, were killed in firing by their own accomplices during an ‘encounter’ with the Gujranwala police and the Crime Control Department CCD in Aimenabad on Saturday.
A spokesman for Gujranwala police said the Kamoke police had arrested two suspects Qayyum and Ehtesham alias Shamu involved in the murder of policeman Muhammad Ikram and injuring another cop Ikramul Haq during an encounter with the Gujranwala police on March 6.
He said the Kamoke police had been taking along the arrested suspects for the recovery of weapons used in the killing of the cop.
However, six armed suspects, including Umar Gujjar and Awais Gujjar, ambushed the raiding party and snatched the suspect from police custody.
Police then started chasing the fleeing suspects and an encounter started between the suspects and the Gujranwala district police.
When the firing stopped, police found the fleeing suspects, including Ehtsham and Qayyum, injured who died on way to the hospital.
On the other hand, a team of CCD police started chasing Umair and Awais. The outlaws and police exchanged firing during which they were killed ‘by the firing of their own accomplices.’
