Senior CTD officer shot dead in Quetta

QUETTA: A senior officer of the Counter Terrorism Depar­tment (CTD) of Balochistan was martyred on Sunday when some armed assailants opened fire on him in the Killi Ismail area of the provincial capital Quetta.

According to police, Inspector Metha Khan, who recently joined CTD, was shot by gunmen when he was passing through the Killi Ismail area.

“The armed men on motorcycles opened fire on the CTD officer, [martyring] him on the spot. He suffered multiple bullet injuries,” a senior police officer said, adding the gunmen escaped after the incident.

Police rushed to the area and took his body to civil hospital. “The CTD officer suffered multiple bullet wounds causing his instant death,” a hospital official said.

The body of the slain police officer was later handed over to his family members. Metha Khan was a senior police officer and served as the station house officer in different police stations and in other places.

Police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation for the arrest of attackers.
