‘Time to resolve Durand line issue permanently’

LAHORE: Former federal minister Muhammad Ali Durrani says it is time to resolve the issue of Durand line permanently.

“Afghanistan does not recognise the Durand Line and that the time has come for Pakistan to also refuse to recognise it and to get Wakhan corridor liberated so that the people of Afghanistan can attain peace and prosperity,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Condemning the Afghan government’s move to impose war on Pakistan, Durani said that an unjustified attack on Pakistan by the Afghan government under the patronage of Israel and India was not only an act of ingratitude but also unIslamic and a blatant violation of international law.

By taking this step the Afghan government has effectively admitted to patronising terrorists, he added.

Durrani said that by waging an open war against Pakistan, the Afghan government had violated the Doha Agreement, and that the guarantors of the agreement should hold Kabul accountable.

He said the UN report has already indicted the Afghan government and warned the world that Afghanistan has become a hub for terrorists, from where major terrorist incidents could be carried out in the region and beyond.

Durrani further said that weapons left behind by US forces in Afghanistan posed a serious threat to global peace.

“These weapons are being used against Pakistan and that eliminating them is the need of the hour,” he said adding that the world should extend full support to Pakistan to dismantle this US-origin weaponry,” he said.
