Robbers loot over Rs20m in separate incidents in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Separate gangs of robbers looted cash and valuables worth over Rs11 million from a bank located in the commercial hub of the capital and a house in two different strikes, while thieves stole cash and valuables worth Rs9 million, police said.

In the first incident, a gang of robbers looted cash, including foreign currency worth over Rs3.8 million, from a bank located in the bustling Blue Area.

Following the incident, Kohsar police registered a case under robbery charges against unidentified gunmen.

Police said three armed men raided the bank branch after sunset, overpowered the security guards and snatched their weapons. The robbers then held the guards and other bank staff at gunpoint and held them hostages.

The robbers reached the cash counter and looted over Rs3.8 million along with foreign currency, including US dollars, before escaping with the booty.

In another incident, a gang of robbers looted cash, a vehicle and gold from the house of Ali Saeed in F-10/2.

Three armed men raided the house and held the residents at gunpoint. The robbers gathered the residents in one place and ransacked the house. The gunmen looted Rs1.65 million in cash and gold weighing eight tolas, worth Rs2.5 million.

Before escaping, the robbers also took away a Mazda Scrum vehicle worth Rs4 million from the house.

Meanwhile, a gang of thieves stole gold ornaments from the house of Mohammad Nazir in I-14/3.

Police quoted Mohammad Nazir as saying that two women entered the house on the pretext of seeking work. During their stay, they stole 20 tolas of gold worth Rs7.5 million and escaped.

Moreover, burglars stole cash and valuables worth Rs1.5 million from the house of Faiz Ahmed in Ghouri Town.

The burglars broke into the house when the residents were away and looted gold weighing three tolas, cash, watches and other household items before escaping.
