From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1951: Seventy-five years ago: Egyptian warning
CAIRO: One lakh Egyptians … today [Feb 17] called upon the United Nations to hold forthwith an impartial plebiscite in Kashmir and warned that any further delay will endanger world peace… . The call is embodied in a declaration signed by students, professors, engineers, lawyers, journalists, Members of Parliament, political workers, religious leaders and a host of women. …
The [declaration] — issued on the eve of the Security Council meeting to discuss Kashmir — announces the readiness of the Muslim world and its people “to sacrifice everything for the liberation of more than three million Muslims whose religion freedom and very existence are threatened by Indian bayonets”.
[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Lake Success,] official sources said on Friday [Feb 16] that the Anglo-American resolution on Kashmir will be shown to Bharat and Pakistan on Monday and the Security Council will presumably be able to open a debate … on Wednesday. Informants said … that the joint Anglo-American resolution … primarily seeks to offer solutions for the demilitarization of Jammu and Kashmir prior to a plebiscite.
