Three terror suspects arrested in Sukkur
SUKKUR: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sukkur claimed to have arrested three suspects, allegedly transporting explosive material and a large consignment of arms and ammunition and counterfeit currency.
The arrest was made during the search of a car near the Rohri Interchange in Sukkur district.
According to a press release, a special operation team of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sukkur based on secret intelligence conducted a high-level professional action.
It said that dangerous suspects were involved in the transportation of illegal weapons and explosive material.
The statement said that the arrested suspects were identified as Danish alias Dani; son of Muhammad Irfan Afridi Pathan; Arslan alias Arsu; son of Zarwali Khan Afridi Pathan, and Salar Ahmed, son of Deen Muhammad Dharejo.
It also said the CTD had recovered 300 gram of explosive powder, along with safety fuse wire, nuts and bolts, a detonator, battery and timer.
The CTD has also seized arms and ammunition, including six Kalashnikov rifles, two shotguns (12 bore), 1,200 live rounds for SMG, 100 live rounds for 30 bore pistol, and 12 empty magazines for SMG rifles and four empty magazines for 12 bore shotguns.
Fake Pakistani currency worth approximately Rs7.5million was also recovered from the car, a Honda Civic, 2013 model, it read.
The statement further said that the initial investigations suggested that those weapons and explosives were likely to be used in serious crimes and terrorist activities.
The suspects are allegedly part of an organised gang smuggling illegal arms and counterfeit currency from Darra Adam Khel to Sindh and other parts of the country, the press release read, adding that the network reportedly used social media platforms to maintain contacts.
The statement read that cases had been registered against the suspects under sections related to terrorism, possession of illegal weapons and counterfeit currency.
It said that all the recovered items had been taken into legal custody.
The CTD has expanded the scope of the investigation to arrest further facilitators and individuals associated with the network.
