Train derails after engine brake failure

SAHIWAL: A Lahore-bound goods train derailed at the Harappa Railway Station late on Friday night disrupting rail traffic on the mainline for eight hours.

Railway officials said the incident occurred due to a brake failure, causing the engine to derail first, followed by 10 bogies that were left stranded on the track. Officials confirmed that the engine driver sustained injuries when the train derailed.

An emergency relief train from Khanewal was dispatched which managed to clear the track after nearly eight hours. As a result, rail traffic between Khanewal and Lahore remained suspended.

PR’s Multan divisional superintendent ordered an inquiry into the incident.
