KHYBER: Police arrested four persons after four pedestrians were injured in a firing incident over a land dispute in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber tribal district.
Police officials told this scribe that rival groups of Kukikhel tribe in Jamrud established bunkers and raised other illegal structures in order to fortify their claim over the forced possession of land of their rivals.
They said that an operation was also launched against all the illegal structures after ejection of all armed men from their bunkers. They said that a number of those illegal structures were dismantled during the operation.
Police officials said that the situation worsened when rival families from Sher Khankhel sub-tribe of Kukikhel took up arms against each other.
They said that armed men of Sher Khankhel also forcibly occupied lands of their choice.
They said that additional personnel were deployed at the disputed site after arresting four tribesmen and demolishing illegal structures there.
A jirga of local elders was also convened to hold talks between the rival groups and resolve the land dispute amicably.
Meanwhile, police officials said they seized five kilograms of ice in two separate actions against drug paddlers in Jamrud on Saturday.
They said that three kilograms of the contraband was recovered from the secret cavities of a van while another two kilograms of ice drug were seized from a pedestrian at Sur Kamar and Takhta Bag checkposts, respectively. They said that cases were registered against the suspects and investigations were launched.
