Return of Shaan

The teaser trailer for the new Punjabi film Bullah is creating quite a buzz. The movie, slated to be released on Eidul Fitr, is written by Nasir Adeeb (Maula Jatt), directed by Shoaib Khan (Jackpot) and features Shaan, Mona Lisa, Salim Shaikh and Naeema Butt. It marks the return to the screen of Shaan after a long while. By the looks of it, it’s an action-packed saga with a great deal of gunfire, gore and punch-up sequences. The sharply edited trailer suggests that it will be a well-made movie. If that’s the case, we think it’s a good sign for our local film industry, because we don’t produce too many movies in a year, and Punjabi films have a big market in the country. So, let’s hope that Bullah sets new records at the box office.

The Shehzada Track

The new-look pop group Fuzon, which is by no means a new band, ably led by Emu, has come out with a single titled Shehzada. The funky video is nicely shot by Sohail Javed and the singer Wajeeh Uddin Meer (who has imparted a new look to the group) has sung the lyrics with the kind of vocal oomph that is required for the track. It’s a finger-snapping good song. The news is that the whole album, of which Shehzada is a part, has songs that music lovers will definitely lend an ear to. Good job, Shehzado!

Cowards’ Corner

If you want to know how quickly bigotry (and fear, in the case of minorities) has taken over Indian society, check this out. On February 8, the extreme right-wing Hindu organisation, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), celebrated 100 years since its inception. Quite a few Bollywood celebs, such as Akshay Kumar and Vicky Kaushal were there, which is no surprise. But things went a bit strange when cameramen spotted superstars Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor at the event as well. This prompted comedian Kunal Kamra to label them “a bunch of cowards.” We agree.

London Exit

Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise has an apartment in Knightsbridge, London worth £35 million, not far from a Rolex store. On February 2, half-a-dozen men brandishing machetes and hammers robbed the store. It left Tom C worried. As a result, he cleared out of his apartment, complaining that “London has declined” and was no longer safe to live in. Apparently, he is looking for a place in the US, his country of birth, to live. So, the actor who does daredevil sequences in his movies is terrified of such acts taking place in real life? Well, for movies you get oodles of money. In life, that cash can get snatched. Wink!

Stop It!

Filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap has been spewing venom against Bollywood big-gun Salman Khan and his family for quite a while through a series of interviews to a YouTube channel. Not anymore. A Mumbai court has prohibited him and three others (working for that channel) from making defamatory remarks against Salman K and his khandaan. According to the judge, P.G. Bhosale, the right to freedom of speech does not entail the use of derogatory or intimidating language against anyone. Spot on, judge! Also get this Abhinav K to wear non-snug shirts, please. He looks vulgar on screen.

Open Formula

We have to hand it to reality TV star Kim Kardashian and Formula 1 icon Lewis Hamilton for keeping their affair under wraps. No more secrets. It’s now out in the open that they’ve been together for quite a few months. The two have been spotted together, and things were verified when they were seen in a close-coupley mood at a country club in Witney, Oxfordshire. While Kim K has been married three times, Lewis H has never tied the knot (he did have some steady relationships, though). Let’s see how this togetherness goes in terms of tricky bends, curves and stoppages.
