Book Review: Amazo and the Planetary Reboot

Justice League isn’t just the name of a superhero team that saves the world every now and then, but also teaches you a lot of good things. Through Amazo and the Planetary Reboot, they teach you the importance of teamwork, which helps them in a battle they thought they might not win.

Written by Brandon T Snider and drawn by Tim Levins, the book follows a normal day in the lives of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Plastic Man, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Cyborg. While they were busy inaugurating the new tech at the Watchtower, Amazo arrived on Earth with a plan to solve all its problems by wiping out its entire population!

Many villains have wanted to do what Amazo had planned, but there is something about him that is worth mentioning. What makes him different from other supervillains and difficult for the Justice League is that he can absorb the very superpowers that make these superheroes stand out and use them against them. He does the same here and is seemingly winning the battle until Plastic Man realises the importance of a piece of junk he encountered earlier.

Will that help the Justice League save the world, or will the superpower-duplicating android triumph in his total planetary reboot?

The book has been divided into five chapters, and the narration is as good as an episode of the animated series — fast, to the point and explosive. Each chapter covers one part of the adventure, while the illustrations give you an idea of how the situation mentioned in the pages would translate into visuals.

Besides teamwork, this book also shows that using your brain is always the best way to solve any problem. It also impresses on the readers the value of observation, explaining that keeping your eyes and ears open always comes in handy. The glossary at the end would also introduce you to a few new words, including interpret, mimic, and simulator, along with their meanings.

While the JL Database for Villains introduces you to the main antagonist of this adventure, the assignments at the very end like ‘if you could absorb superpowers of one Justice League member, who would it be’ or ‘pick your favourite illustrations’, could make your friend’s visit or sleepover more interesting.
