GUJRAT: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Gujrat installed the digital rain gauge systems at four locations to assess the scale of the rain as well as to cope with the urban flooding.
Earlier, the system of rain gauge, installed by the meteorological department at the Hafiz Hayat Campus of University of Gujrat was located 15km from the city due to which the civic agencies could not calculate the exact amount of rainfall in the city.
The district administration had requested the meteorological department as well as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to instal such a system at the DC Office as well as at the Jail Chowk.
Wasa Managing Director Kashaan Hafeez Butt said Wasa had installed at least rain gauge systems at four sites in the city, namely Jail Chowk, Wasa Office GT Road, Boley Disposal Station and the Narowali Disposal Station on Sargodha Road. He said all four locations had been linked to the central control room at the Wasa office which could help the civic agencies in tackling the urban flooding in the rainy season.
It may be recalled that Gujrat city had witnessed the worst urban flooding of its history in August and September 2025.
