Bangkok became the stage for one of the biggest moments in esports this year. As the PUBG MOBILE Global Championship (2025 PMGC) Grand Finals lit up Thailand’s capital, the city transformed into an esports carnival where competitive gaming blended with pop culture and fan-driven experiences. From packed arenas to buzzing fan zones, the event felt less like a championship and more like a global celebration of how far esports has come.
The energy inside Siam Paragon, which hosted the event from Dec 12 to 14, was electric. Thousands of fans showed up not just to watch the world’s best players compete. They came to be part of something bigger, a community built by PUBG MOBILE that connects players, creators and fans around the globe.
For South Asia, the event served as a reminder of the region’s growing footprint in global esports. The passion on display in Bangkok mirrored what already exists across Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. The region has a massive player base that lives and breathes the game daily and an audience that does not just consume esports but actively shapes it.
South Asian teams may not have lifted the trophy, but their progress was evident. Their performances showed sharper coordination, better game sense, and the confidence to challenge established powerhouses. With structured global platforms like PMGC, each appearance on the international stage continues to narrow the gap and raise expectations for the region.
Pakistan’s representation came through Inner Circle Esports, the only local team to participate in the championship. While they did not advance to the Grand Finals, reaching the Final Chance stage placed them among the better-performing teams globally and underlined the steady development of Pakistan’s competitive scene through continued exposure to high-level tournaments.
The biggest moment for Pakistani fans, however, came off the battlefield. As part of the 2026 esports roadmap revealed during the Grand Finals, it was announced that Pakistan will host the 2026 PUBG MOBILE Global Open. The event marks a major milestone for the country’s esports landscape. Hosting a top-tier esports event creates opportunities across the digital economy, including competitive gamers, event production, broadcasting, content creation and technical roles. It also boosts tourism and positions the host city as part of a global youth-driven culture shaped by gaming and digital entertainment.
For years, Pakistan’s gaming community has grown organically, often without formal infrastructure or institutional support. Internet cafes became training spaces and talent emerged through persistence rather than systems. PUBG MOBILE has lifted them up and provided a new avenue to shine, ensuring that this grassroots growth is now being met with global opportunity.
The championship in Bangkok also coincided with the eighth anniversary of PUBG MOBILE’s competitive journey, reflected in how localised and community-focused the experience felt. It reinforces the gaming platform’s strategy by actively bringing global esports experiences into emerging markets and promoting young talent.
PMGC reflects inclusion, accessibility and momentum driven by consistent investment across regions, a fact made clear by the excitement and scale of the Bangkok Grand Finals.
