GUJRAT: The Aroop Police Station of Gujranwala on Sunday arrested a woman involved in an ‘objectionable’ video showing an intimate act between her and a man.
The video had gone viral about a week back. The man in the video was also booked but he is stated to be at large.
The police identified the man, a resident of Nawan Pind, whereas the name of the married woman had not been mentioned due to legal constraints; however, her husband’s identity was made who too is a resident of the same village of Gujranwala.
The case has been lodged against both the suspects under Section 376 (rape) and Section 292(d) (circulation of obscene material) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the report of a citizen, Sajjad Ahmed, of Nasir Colony, Gujranwala.
According to media reports, the police presented the woman, a mother of four, before a judicial magistrate who sent her to jail on three-day judicial remand. In her statement before the magistrate, the woman claimed that the suspect had administered to her some addictive substance before recording the video.
She also claimed that he had blackmailed her, demanding Rs1m from her. After the video had gone viral, she had left for her parents’ home near Multan but returned to Nawan Pind a couple of days later where she was arrested.
A spokesman for Gujranwala police, speaking to Dawn, confirmed the arrest of the woman. He claimed that action had been taken after City Police Officer Dr Ghias Gul Khan took notice of the sexual video that had been viral on social media.
According to media reports, the man is already in custody of police. However, the police spokesman said a team had been constituted under the DSP Gujranwala Cantt circle to arrest the suspect and raids were being conducted for his arrest.
