Khanewal to improve municipal services

LAHORE: Khanewal district administration on Wednesday constituted six teams to enhance municipal services, ensure timely resolution of civic issues and provide better public facilities across the district.

Khanewal Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rashid constituted six squads of the District Inspections Team to operate at the Municipal Committee level, with each team comprising two members.

The DITs have been assigned the task of identifying critical civic issues including stray dogs, open sewerage lines, garbage accumulation points, and non-functional street lights.

The DC chaired a meeting where administrators, chief officers and members of the squads were briefed on a comprehensive operational strategy. The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ghulam Mustafa Sihar and Shahid Rizwan Bhutta.

During the meeting, the inspection teams were briefed on the mechanism for task identification and reporting through a dedicated mobile application.

The DC directed that all issues uploaded on the application must be resolved within the stipulated time frame, ensuring accountability and effective service delivery.

Ms Rashid emphasized that a zero-tolerance policy is being strictly enforced regarding open sewerage, stray dogs, sanitation lapses, and dysfunctional street lighting.

2,525 dogs culled: The Khanewal district administration has eliminated 2,525 stray dogs in a campaign launched against stray dogs to ensure public safety.

According to details, the administration carried out the operations over the past two weeks from Dec 20, 2025, to Jan 3, 2026.

The district council and municipal committees jointly conducted operation across the Khanewal district and eliminated 2,525 stray dogs. The campaign aims to protect citizens from stray dog attacks and ensure overall public safety.

The district administration spokesperson stated that all government hospitals have an adequate stock of vaccines and medicines to treat dog-bite cases promptly in any emergency situation.

He said the administration urged the public to report the presence of stray dogs to the relevant authorities immediately so that timely action can be taken.
