QUETTA: Quetta and several other parts of northern, eastern and western Balochistan received rain, while snowfall occurred in the surrounding mountainous areas, causing temperatures to drop sharply and intensifying the cold with icy winds.

The rain began late Monday night and continued through Tuesday with intermittent breaks, accompanied by snowfall on the mountains around Quetta.

Rainfall was recorded in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Kalat, Musa Khel, Loralai, Chagai, Khuzdar, Washuk, Kharan, Turbat, Gwadar, Pasni, and Dalbandin.

Meanwhile, snowfall continued in hilly areas, including Ziarat, Toba Kakari, Kan Mehtarzai, Muslim Bagh, Pishin, Chaman, and Qila Abdullah, disrupting routine life in these regions.

The snowfall made roads slippery and created hurdles for smooth traffic flow.

PMD forecasts more rain, strong winds in many areas today; quake felt in Quetta

The Met Office has forecast that rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is likely to hit Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Noshki, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, and Musa Khel today (Wednesday). It added that cold and partly cloudy weather is expected to persist in other districts of the province.

Also on Tuesday, a mild earthquake was felt in the provincial capital and its surrounding areas on Tuesday. Acc­or­ding to the Seismological Centre, the tremor occurred at 8:56am and measured 2.9. It said the quake originated at a depth of 30km, with its epicentre located about 40km northeast of Quetta.
