Ton-up Imam helps Multan hit back against DM Jamali

KARACHI: Imam-ul-Haq’s commanding unbeaten 176 headlined the second day of the Hanif Mohammad Trophy’s second round as the Multan opener drove his side into a dominant position against Dera Murad Jamali at the National Bank Stadium on Friday.

Imam, who struck 20 fours and two sixes in his 182-ball stay, added 190 for the opening wicket with Zain Abbas (81) before forging another unbroken 140-run stand with Imran Rafiq (70 not out).

Multan closed on 330-1 in reply to DM Jamali’s 361. Earlier, Arafat Minhas’ 4-46 restricted DM Jamali, who resumed at 272-4, to 361 all out. Nasir Khan top-scored with 148 off 283 balls.

Rawalpindi also enjoyed a strong outing as Yasir Khan’s century (127) carried them to 277-4 in their second innings, stretching their lead over Larkana to 291 runs at stumps. Larkana, resuming on 107-6, we­re bowled out for 160 with Kashif Ali returning 4-43.

At the UBL Sports Complex, Danish Aziz produced an all-round display to put Karachi Blues in control against Fata. After claiming 5-40 to dismiss the opposition for 165, Danish contributed 56 in the second innings. Alongside Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (73), he helped Blues reach 198-8 — a lead of 250.

Faisalabad’s Mohammad Awais Zafar struck an unbeaten 117 to steer his side to 285-5 in response to Azad Jammu Kashmir’s 298 at Bahawalpur’s Dring Stadium. Awais and Atiq-ur-Rehman (65) shared 112 for the fourth wicket after Faisalabad wobbled at 80-3. AJK were earlier quickly bowled out for 298.

Hyderabad pressed home their advantage over Lahore Blues in Multan, piling up 524 after resuming on 361-2. Saad Khan top-scored with a fluent 175 laced with 30 fours. The Blues, facing a 407-run deficit, ended on 117-4 with Mohammad Saleem unbeaten on 66.

Karachi Whites, meanwhile, dominated Quetta at Rahim Yar Khan thanks to centuries from openers Saad Baig (146) and Jahanzaib Sultan (118). Their 212-run partnership set the platform for a commanding 457-4 in reply to Quetta’s 216.
