KARACHI: The London Times editorial suggesting the partition of Kashmir has caused extremely adverse reactions in the Pakistan Capital. … Its out and out advocacy … following the failure of Sir Owen Dixon to induce Bharat to … a plebiscite … set many Karachi citizens asking on Saturday [Aug 26]: “Are we on the eve of another great betrayal?” … Even the ordinary men … responded with unconcealed anger when … interrogated… . The reactions … are summarised below:

(1) Partition? ...Never, never, never! (2) What else is to be done if Bharat won’t agree to a plebiscite? What is the United Nations for? Why doesn’t it make up its mind? Why doesn’t it apply sanctions? (The actual expression used was “Hindustan ko majboor kare” … ). (3) The UN is in a difficult position; what can it do?

The UN has acted in Korea. Its Armed Forces are fighting there under its flag. How quickly the UN acted in this case. We read that Mr Trygve Lie was knocked out of bed at three o’clock in the morning, in order to summon the Security Council. Why so much promptness in the matter of Korea and such laziness (Soosti) over Kashmir?
