Six new cases take Pindi’s dengue tally to 76
RAWALPINDI: As many as six new dengue cases were reported in the garrison city on Tuesday, taking the tally to 76.
A total of 41 patients are admitted to three government-run hospitals, including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital. Among them, 13 are dengue patients, while the dengue serology reports of 28 patients are still pending.
The vulnerable areas include Daultala, Dhoke Kashmirian, Dhoke Dalal, Sharial North, Girja, Kalyal, Ghari Sikander and Rawalpindi Cantonment wards 13, 17, and 8. Meanwhile, lawmakers Tahira Aurangzeb and Daniyal Chaudhry, along with the divisional commissioner, chaired an anti-dengue review meeting.
The meeting, held at the Rawalpindi Commissioner’s Office was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema, Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Zeibun Nisa Awan, Tahseen Fawad, Asma Naz, Raja Sagheer, Malik Iftikhar, Imran Ilyas, Malik Mansoor Afser, Riffat Abbasi, Tahira Mushtaq, Haji Parvez and others, along with District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr Ehsan Ghani and heads of relevant government departments.
MNA Tahira Aurangzeb said that the current temperature is highly conducive to dengue breeding.
Therefore, all departments must take immediate and coordinated action to eliminate dengue. She said there are currently 76 confirmed dengue cases in Rawalpindi.
She directed that regular fogging campaigns be conducted and that the Local Government and Labour Departments intensify their field activities.
“Cleanliness in all towns and complete drainage cleaning must be ensured,” she said. She emphasised maintaining close coordination with the Islamabad administration and carrying out joint anti-dengue activities.
She further instructed the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company to run an intensive cleanliness campaign in Union Councils 70 to 75 in collaboration with local public representatives.
In addition, she said awareness vouchers should be distributed in partnership with the traffic police to raise public awareness and encourage citizens to adopt preventive measures.
She stressed that it is not just the responsibility of government institutions to eradicate dengue. Citizens must also play their part by ensuring that water does not accumulate in homes and offices, cleaning flowerpots and old containers regularly and promptly reporting suspicious sites to district authorities.
Divisional officials, responding to concerns raised by members of the provincial assembly, directed that a Google map of Rawalpindi’s drains be prepared using different colour schemes and presented at the next meeting.
District officials have also been instructed to impose a ban on the open display of tires under Section 144. In response to complaints regarding tires and spare parts markets in Union Councils 31, 32, and 33, immediate action was ordered against them.
The meeting also called for urgent repair of pipes on the Leh Nullah link road in Union Council 46. It was decided to take action against illegal clinics across the division and to ensure that cleanliness is maintained.
A special meeting with the General Manager of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited and Iesco officials was also proposed to resolve repair and other issues in a timely manner.
Furthermore, the education department was instructed to issue certificates to students and teachers participating in anti-dengue activities to encourage them and make the campaign more effective. All departments were also directed to submit their daily reports regarding anti-dengue field activities to the commissioner’s office.
