Two held over Rs1m robbery in Dera
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The police have arrested two men over a Rs1 million armed robbery here.
Unidentified men snatched Rs1 million from a resident at gunpoint in the jurisdiction of City Police Station on July 14 and fled, according to a spokesman for police.
He said SDPO (City) Mohammad Adnan, along with SHO (City) Taimur Khan Marwat and in-charge (investigation) Sabir Hussain, launched an operation to track down the culprits. The police intercepted robbers as they attempted another robbery.
In the exchange of fire with the police, one suspect was injured, while the other was arrested. The accused were later identified as Zahid and Affan, both residents of Tank district.
The police also seized the stolen Rs1 million, two pistols, ammunition and a motorcycle used in the crime. The recovered cash was later returned to its rightful owner, according to the spokesman.
KILLED: A 53-year-old man was killed in a road accident near Yarik on Dera-Bannu Road.
Zafar Haider of Kotla Syedan was returning home on his motorcycle when a speeding car hit him near Razzaq Kanta in Yarik area, leaving him seriously injured. The people shifted him to the hospital where he died afterwards.
The deceased, a motorcycle dealer by profession, was laid to rest in Kotli Imam Hussain after funeral prayers.
Meanwhile, the Tank police have launched a crackdown on underage drivers, detaining several minors riding motorcycles and driving rickshaws in the city.
According to the police spokesman, the action has been taken on the instructions of district police officer Shabbir Hussain Shah, under the supervision of DSP (headquarters) Naqeebullah Khan Marwat, following complaints from citizens to prevent road accidents.
During the crackdown, he said traffic in-charge Asmatullah Khan Kundi detained several underage drivers at the traffic checkpoint. Later, their parents and guardians were summoned and strictly warned.
