KP govt doubles compensation for affected people: Saif

PESHAWAR: The adviser to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief minister for information and public relations, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, on Sunday said the process of distributing compensation cheques among the flood-affected districts was underway at a fast pace.

An official statement issued from his office read that a total of Rs614 million had been disbursed to the families of 307 deceased individuals, while Rs15.9 million had been distributed among 34 injured persons, adding that cheques for the remaining 89 martyrs and 144 injured persons would be issued soon.

Mr Saif said that on the special instructions of the chief minister, the martyrs’ compensation package was enhanced from Rs1 million to Rs2 million besides the compensation amount for damaged homes was doubled.

“Now, owners of completely destroyed houses will receive Rs1 million, while those with partially damaged homes will receive Rs500,000, up from the previous amounts of Rs500,000 and Rs250,000 respectively,” the statement quoted Mr Saif as saying.

The chief minister’s adviser also informed that a digital application had been introduced to ensure transparency and timely payments, adding that through the digital application, flood victims were now receiving Rs15,000 as immediate relief assistance.

He said that for the first time in the province’s history the compensation payments were processed and disbursed with such an unprecedented speed and efficiency.

Mr Saif also informed that a comprehensive survey of fully and partially damaged houses was currently ongoing and upon its completion, compensation cheques would be distributed accordingly to the affected homeowners.
