Peshawar varsity promises employees payment of salary

PESHAWAR: Academics and non-academic staff of the University of Peshawar on Friday postponed their weeklong protest after they were promised payment of their outstanding salaries and pensions soon.

Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) president Prof Zakirullah told Dawn that the decision regarding the protest’s postponement had been taken after a meeting with the vice-chancellor and registrar of the university.

He said that the remaining half of the salary and pension for the month of June was released to the employees on the spot, while the university administration assured them of releasing their salaries and pensions for the month of July soon.

Prof Zakirullah said that they would launch the protest again if the university administration didn’t honour its commitment.
