SAHIWAL: Yousafwala police claimed to have arrested a youth allegedly involved in the murder of his father whom he accused of torturing his mother to death at 61/5-L on Friday.

District Police Officer (DPO) Rana Tahir says a couple was found brutally murdered in their house in the early hours of Friday at village 61/5-L, Sahiwal.

He says that at the time of the incident, the couple -- Ramzan (50) and his wife Jatti Mai (40) --was asleep in a room of their house while their sons -- Ahmed (19) and Tayyab (20)—slept in the courtyard.

In the morning, the couple was found brutally murdered with marks of torture on their bodies. On being called to the scene, a Yousafwala police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Shafiq Qammar started initial investigations.

The SHO says that investigators found the circumstances surrounding the double murder suspicious, as there were no signs of a forced entry into the house while the locks were also intact.

He says that the police interrogated both sons of the couple who were present there at the time of the incident.

During interrogation, the SHO said, younger son Ahmed confessed to have committed the crime, revealing a long history of domestic violence by his father.

The SHO quoted Ahmed as saying, “Around 5am, I heard my mother crying in pain. When I rushed into the room, I saw my father beating her with a bamboo stick. In a fit of anger, I grabbed another stick and hit my father in the head and back. He [father] collapsed and died. When I turned to help my mother, she too succumbed to her injuries.”

The DPO confirmed that Ahmed has been arrested. He said that the elder son Tayyab told the police that he was asleep and could not notice anything.

An FIR has been registered on the complaint of Jatti Mai’s brother.

The SHO said following the postmortem examination conducted at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, the bodies were handed over to the family.

REMAND DENIED: Anti-Terrorism Court Special Judge Zia Ulalh Khan rejected a police request for extending the physical remand of Ayesha Bibi, who was allegedly involved in an acid attack on a youth along with her mother-in-law at Muslim Bin Aqeel Colony on July 20.

Earlier, the judge had granted a six-day remand of the suspect till Aug 1.

On Friday, the judge sent Ayesha on a 14-day judicial remand to jail and directed Fateh Sher police to present her on Aug 16.

Fateh Sher police had registered a case against Ayesha, wife of Shahzad, her mother-in-law, Shaheen, and an unknown person under sections 336 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, on the complaint of the acid victim’s elder brother, Rashid Ali.
