Seminar stresses balanced population growth

MARDAN: A one-day seminar on the national narrative for population growth titled ‘Tawazun’ was held here the other day.

The event brought together prominent ulema from Mardan, Swabi and Buner districts, with the aim of engaging religious scholars for promotion of balanced population growth in accordance with the Islamic teachings and national interests.

The adviser to the chief minister on population welfare, Malik Liaqat Ali Khan, was the chief guest, while director general population welfare Rehan Gul Khattak was also present.

Addressing the participants, Malik Liaqat Ali Khan stressed the critical need for integrating religious teachings with national policies on population.

He emphasised that overpopulation could lead to social, economic and environmental challenges, while Islamic principles support planning for a better quality of life for all citizens.

He also appreciated efforts of the organisers for initiating such an important dialogue with the religious community and other relevant stakeholders.

Earlier, Rehan Gul Khattak highlighted the important role ulema and religious scholars could play to guide the community towards responsible family planning, emphasising harmony between population growth and available resources.

During the seminar, a number of ulema also expressed their views on how Islam encourages balance (Tawazun) in all aspects of life, including population.

They acknowledged the need for awareness among the public and pledged their support in delivering this message from the pulpit and in community engagements.

The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment by all the participants to work together for a prosperous and balanced future, aligning religious values with national development goals.
