Two more citizens shot dead by street criminals in city

KARACHI: Street criminals continued to operate in the metropolis with impunity as two more citizens were gunned down in separate incidents on Tuesday.

Police said a 38-year-old man was shot dead in Orangi Town on Tuesday evening.

Area SHO Agha Mohammed Aslam said armed men riding a motorbike intercepted Mustafa Shamsheer in Orangi-13, opened fire when he put up resistance and rode away.

The victim suffered critical bullet wounds and died on the spot. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

While the assailants did not take anything from the victim, the police said the incident appeared to be robbery-related.

The SHO said that investigators were probing into the case.

In another incident, a man was shot dead in Gulzar-i-Hijri late on Monday night, officials said on Tuesday.

Sachal SHO Mohammed Ameen Khoso said Mohammed Kareem, 36, was talking on his mobile phone near Khatme-i-Nabuwat Chowk in Scouts Colony when armed pillion riders attempted to snatch his phone. As he resisted, the suspects shot him and fled with the phone.

The officer claimed that shortly after that, an encounter with the suspects took place in Metroville. During an exchange of gunfire, both suspects, identified as Ameen and Naseem, were arrested in a wounded condition.

Police recovered the victim’s snatched mobile phone, a motorcycle and two pistols from their possession.

The deceased, father of four, worked at a restaurant in Gulzar-i-Hijri and originally hailed from Thar, the officer added.
