Ahtesham reigns supreme as national tennis concludes
KARACHI: Ahtesham Humiyon capped a dominant fortnight by securing three titles at the inaugural Sohail University National Juniors and Seniors Tennis Championship, which concluded here at the DA Creek Club on Friday.
Ahtesham of SNGPL claimed his fifth title in two weeks, starting with victory in the Under-18 final where he defeated department-mate Hassan Usmani 6-2, 6-2.
Ahtesham, who won the men’s title on Thursday, then partnered with Asad Zaman to win the U-18 doubles final, beating Mohammad Yahya and Hassan 6-3, 6-2.
The women’s final saw Inaya Sayyed overcome Eschelle Asif 8-3 while Romaisa Malik claimed the girls U-18 title with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Bismal Zia.
Mahateer Mohammad and Raahim Veqar won the men’s doubles final against Taimoor Ansari and Nameer Shamsi 8-3.
Eman Shahbaz secured the girls U-12 crown defeating Shahnoor Umer 2-4, 5-4, 4-2. Eman then teamed with Bismal Zia to win the U-14 doubles final against the pair of Shahnoor and Shahreen Umer 4-2, 4-2.
Junaid Khan won the U-14 final against Mohammad Muaz Shahbaz while Rashid Ali Bachani also downed Muaz to annex the U-12 trophy.
Junaid also won the U-14 doubles crown as he partnered up with Ansarullah in the U-14 final against Rashid and Ebrahim Gill.
Ashtar Alam Khan won the U-10 title while Muaz and Mohammad Ayan captured the U-12 doubles title.
The 35-plus doubles final was won by Nomi Qamar and Tanveer Muneer.
Tennis balls and trophies worth Rs150,000 were distributed among the winners and runners-up.
The week-long championship received over 230 entries, including 20 outstation male and female players.
