Former minister challenges mines law in BHC

QUETTA: Former federal minister Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd on Thursday challenged Mines and Minerals Act 2025 in the Balochistan High Court, arguing the legislation was a violation of the rights of people.

The ex-minister with the PPP, filed a constitutional petition through legal counsel Advocate Badar Munir against the act.

The law was recently passed by the provincial assembly despite strong opposition from Baloch and Pashtoon nationalist parties.

The petition contends the act “undermines the collective national rights of the people of Balochistan”.

Mr Kurd expressed concern that the law would have negative political consequences.

He also announced plans a widespread public campaign against the law.
