Two dacoits killed in ‘encounter’

OKARA: Two alleged dacoits were killed during an encounter with police near Pir Di Hatti on Okara-Dipalpur Road on Tuesday night.

The police said during a routine patrol, a police team received information of a dacoity by four armed men near village 38/D Kalan. The complainant alleged that four gunmen had snatched Rs350,000 cash and a motorcycle along with ATM cards and his CNIC.

The police were informed the dacoits were heading towards Pir Di Hatti area on the Okara-Dipalpur Road. The team called for reinforcements before reaching the area where the police claimed the men started firing on the police party.

Police said when the reinforcements arrived, the gunmen were ordered to surrender but they continued to fire on the police.

Police claimed that a search operation was conducted in the area after the guns went silent and they found the dead body of one of the attackers.

The team claimed to have recovered a weapon, Rs75,000 in cash, a mobile phone and CNIC of the victim. Police claimed the man died by the firing of his accomplices.

Police later found the body of another attacker in the area and recovered the ATM card, a weapon, Rs165,000 in cash and the snatched motorcycle. Police said two other suspects fled from the scene.

Police shifted the bodies to hospital for postmortem.

The deceased were identified as Ali Husnain, a resident of Pir Ghani Pakpattan, who was found involved in 17 cases, and Sumeer, who had three cases registered against him.

An FIR was registered on the report of the Dipalpur SHO Fakhar Hayat.
