Pakistan women beat Indonesia in Asian Cup Qualifier

JAKARTA: Pakistan secured a historic 2-0 win over hosts Indonesia in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifier at Jakarta on Wednesday, marking their first-ever victory in the tournament’s qualification stage.

Nadia Khan opened the scoring in the eighth minute, giving Pakistan an early lead. Suha Hirani then converted a penalty in the 19th minute to extend the advantage and seal a memorable win for the team at the .

The onus was on Indonesia to find their way back but despite introducing Isa, Helsya Maeisyaroh and Marsela Yuliana Awi into the mix, Satoru Mochizuki’s charges were unable to overturn the deficit.

The result moved Pakistan into second place, level on points with Indonesia but three behind Chinese Taipei. They face Kyrgyzstan in their concluding tie on Saturday.

Pakistan had slumped to a 8-0 defeat against Chinese Taipei in their opener while Indonesia edged Kyrgyzstan 1-0.
